Spring is a season of renewal, so the season presents the perfect opportunity to support members of your own community as they get a fresh start. The Friends Collective is a local nonprofit that works toward that goal year-round—but they’re hosting their annual fundraising event, the Friends Collective 5K Walk/Run, this month.

On Sunday, May 15th the community-oriented event returns to Rock Creek Park. Participants of all ability levels are invited to register ($35) and come out for the event. Proceeds will go towards the Friends Collective’s mission of providing for families and individuals coping with food and financial insecurity. If you spring for a Friend’s Collective T-shirt, that purchase will also support the cause! The race both starts and finishes at the Fitzgerald Tennis Center. Make sure you’re warmed up and ready to go by the time the race begins at 8 a.m. You’ll start out by pumping up a steep incline, then follow Beach Drive as it winds throughout the park. At the finish line, a participant’s medal will be ready and waiting whether you run or walk the course.
